This is one of three round up posts for Tribute Month, bringing together all of your awesome makes in one convenient place.
My name is Chloe and I am a Sydneysider who can be found on Instagram as chloe_deadlycraft. I infrequently blog at deadlycraft.blogspot.com, but as with many of us, I end up using Instagram waaaay more often.
How fantastic has Tribute Month been so far? I love the different ways in which people are inspired – some directly reproducing a favourite make and others seeing a link in how a certain fabric or pattern makes them feel or the general overall look.
On a personal perspective, I feel like Tribute Month is a great recognition of how so many of us are shaped in our personal sewing style and objectives. We all fall into the Insta-pit of scrolling through picture after picture of wonderful garments and sometimes it can even stifle our creativity. Way more often I find it sparks ideas and a burning desire to get sewing straight away! This can be difficult when it happens during a break at work…
Enough from me – let’s take a trip through all the fantastic tribute projects posted in the first half of Tribute Month!
Clare from clareecollie was (I think) the first off the blocks with a finished garment as we started August with this make from gorgeous fabric:
Clare was swiftly followed by silverluna88 with these two Megan Nielsen tops:
August is Tribute Month! Who inspires me? First of all – Korina! @liftingpinsandneedles I love her energy, straightforwardness, joy in sewing, honesty, patience, and the way she changes patterns to her body. Great in every situation. He is walking patiently through the sewing steps. I have a feeling that she sits next to me helping me, even though it is at the other end of the world. I'm now sewing tops. Korina inspired me in the video: "20 Facts in 20 Tops". 20 tops that she have made as #stashbusters. I sew a sleeveles tops with curved hemline. I used @megannielsenpatterns #mn2105 #mndove pattern, but without sleeves. I like curved hemline! #megannielsenpatterns #mn2105 #dovepattern #tributemonthsewing #sewcialist #sewingaddict #sew #isew #ilovesewing #sewing
Check out the part where she says (of Korina from liftingpinsandneedles) “I love her energy, straightforwardness, joy in sewing, honesty, patience, and the way she changes patterns to her body. Great in every situation. He is walking patiently through the sewing steps. I have a feeling that she sits next to me helping me, even though it is at the other end of the world.” How perfectly does that sum up how much connection and support the sewing community bring each other?
Kendra from mrscameron73 credits three super sewists (sewers?) with her fabulous blue Cashmerette Turner dress.
My @sewcialists #tributemonthsewing is inspired by three different sewcialists/bloggers: Jenny @cashmerette who was one of the first curvy sewists that I found on the internet. This is her #turnerdress that I sewed up! I love the silhouettes and fabrics she chooses and her IDGAF attitude. 2) @gilliancrafts who inspired me to start sewing with knits. I love Gillian's fearlessness in trying new patterns, silhouettes, and fabrics. Plus her photos and bright smile always make me want to start a new project! 3) Debbie @stitchesandseamsdeb a fellow Florida sewist who understands what it's like to have 10 months of summer and two months of hell each year and yet still have to dress for winter because of overzealous air conditioning!! This dress is a tribute to you all! #sewcialists #sewistsofinstagram #turnerdress #fabricmart
Kendra includes a great explanation of why she is inspired by these particular sewing geniuses in her comment above.
Another quick off the blocks tribute make was this absolutely gorgeous linen number (and super chic purse) from Maggiewix. I want both of these in my wardrobe, stat!
My contribution to @sewcialists #tributemonthsewing is inspired by the very elegant @kylieandthemachine. Her style, fabric choices, palette, photographs – it's all gorgeous. • • The clutch is Kylie's free #idaclutch pattern, and the top is a @namedclothing #inaritee in a @merchantandmills linen I bought on a visit to Rye last month. • • #sewcialists #memadeeveryday
A completely different make from isewthereforeiam also popped up early in August – a fantastic use of pattern and I can totally see the link to the inspiration blogger too.
I'm so excited to share this one! For #sewcialists, August is all about #tributemonthsewing and this #ddreglisse dress is a homage to my long-time favourite source of weekend sewing inspiration on a long Friday afternoon at work. Bold wax cotton print, fitted bodice, circle skirt, yellow clogs … Who could it be? Blog link in bio!
Another one finished super early in August was from miniandmerky – her account is private but you can see it on the bottom right below. Looks like a lovely fabric and perfect with jeans!
YOU GUYS! 😍It's only four days into August and we've already had FIVE people finish #tributemonthsewing projects! Swipe through to see each one, and don't forget to show these lovely #sewcialists some love! 💖💖💖. @silverluna88 inspired by @liftingpinsandneedles ; @maggiewix inspired by @kylieandthemachine ; @isewthereforeiam inspired by @roisinmuldoon ; @mrscameron73 inspired by @cashmerette @stitchesandseamsdeb @gilliancrafts ; and @miniandmerky inspired by @almondrock_sews !!!
Merchant and Mills linen began to emerge as a sub-theme for the month, with more gorgeousness from timetosew and a superb example of stripe matching from ingefrwrd (her account is private, so am using the Sewcialists update post here).
One lovely result of Tribute Month is seeing how proud and unabashed people have been to be listed as an inspiration for a garment, as seen in heatherandthepugs comment on this post by Lori from somebody_or_others_mom:
True Bias Ogden Cami in Tribute to @heatherandthepugs. Heather is a sewing idol of mine so I made this for #tributemonthsewing @sewcialists #sewcialists@sewcialists #truebiaspatterns #ogdencamitruebias. No time fo a jean jacket right now but this cami made with rose rayon poplin that is devine from @blackbirdfabrics #blackbirdfabrics #blackbirdfabricsaddict Skirt is a #tillyandthebuttonspattern from @tillybuttons that was the perfect red and was one of the first things I made after getting back to sewing following having my son 3 years ago. Loving #tributesewing month. Just not enough days in August to suit me.
Another great effect of Tribute Month is that some of us have been spurred to try new things, like Silver (a very prolific contributor with a number of other Tribute Month makes also) trying out a dress using a super stretchy fabric for the first time:
My first dress from a very stretchy fabric!!!! How comfortable it is! @laststitch encouraged me. She gave very good advice to such a fabric and motivated me very much. Pattern: Burda 9/2015, 132B #tributemonthsewing #sewcialist #sewingaddict #sew #isew #ilovesewing #sewing #isewdresses #sewing #sew #dress #dresspattern #ilovesewing #dressmaking #sewingaddict #sewingaddicted #sewingforfun #isewformyself #isewmyownclothes #burdastyle
I really love the mix of elegant, often plain fabrics in some of these garments contrasted with the amazing prints chosen by others. The next Tribute Month make from sewrendipity is such an amazing colour and suits Alex enormously:
Here is my contribution the #sewcialists #tributemonthsewing. It's a @burda_style raglan dress in lilac crepe from 10-2014 issue, no. 127, and it's celebrating the wonderful inspiring ladies who sew with Burda, like @mokosha_ll and @saiddonechris. Thank you!! And if you want to know more, this now on my blog, link in bio. #sewingissexy #sewingfashion #isewclothes #memade
And then we pivot back to print with a lovely dress from sewmuchtolearn. It doesn’t get much better than fabric with synchronised swimmers on it!
A number of awesome people volunteered to write blog posts for the Sewcialists blog during the month, and this lovely top by knitsandsews was a very cool overview of how she customized a Grainline tank with fabric pens to capture Jess from kunklebaby‘s style:
I love that she just had the pens and tried this out, having never done this before.
One of my first instagram inspirational accounts that i followed was @laziestofgirls who has the most amazing collection of Betty's. She often does a @sewoveritlondon #bettyhack with a gathered skirt so I took inspiration and made one myself. (PS I love this stone wall in our holiday fishermans cottage in Porthleven) #soishowoff #sewcialists #handmadewardrobe #tributemonthsewing
Meanwhile, another sewcialists blog contribution from pincushiontreats (private IG account) paid homage to charliewensley from nobleanddaughter with a whole outfit which perfectly captured Charlie’s style:
Rebecca from redwsews then posted this gorgeous version of the Sallie jumpsuit which makes me want to sew another version in a print immediately;
Another day, another blog post; this is my first post for @sewcialists #tributemonthsewing : my thoughts on my first @closetcase.patterns #salliejumpsuit are on the blog now. Who do you think inspired me? Link in profile for the answers! #sewingblog #sewingblogger #sewingkeepsmesane #memade #imademyclothes #holidaysewing
and then emmaandhermachine continued the linen sub-theme with this gorgeous tunic top.
My complete Linen Tunic Top from Sew Girl (free with @lovesewingmag Issue 3 way back when but picked up in the swap from #sewupnorth) Linen from @johnlewisretail on the same day. It's on the blog for my @sewcialists #tributemonthsewing Post contribution. In tribute to @rocco.sienna @guthrieghani and @maddiemadethis and their amazing, laid back, simplicity. #sewcialists #emmasmachine #sewingblogger #sewcialist #sewingaddict #sewobsessed #makersgonnamake #sewingproject #sewaholic #sewistsofinstagram #imadethis #imakemyownclothes #staycation #Northumberland
I have to add a shout out to her awesome photo backdrop, as a girl originally from the same part of the world 🙂
Havinsewmuchfun also takes a mean photo, with the colour popping on both her picture here and the Charlie Caftan she made in a wonderful yellow and white print.
Another great print from Liss at so_so_sew and the fit is spot on.
Finally got a few pictures of this beaut today, this is my @sewcialists #tributemonthsewing project, it's a butterick #b5748 in ode to @craftypinup, in the same print sateen fabric in the pink colourway rather than the blue. I got the fabric a while back from @fabricsgalorelondon but it took seeing Abi's gorgeous dress to convince me to cut into it. It's officially my most expensive me made dress to date, but well worth it, and it got a lot of compliments both at work and out and about in Lytham 😊 #sewersofinstagram #sewcialists #handmade #handmadewardrobe #retrosewing #vintagestyle #vintagesewing #handmadewardrobe #retrostyle #pinkrose #pinupfashion #vintagedress #retrofashion #summerdress #handmadefashion #modernvintage #vintagelook #butterick5748 #sewspiration
So that’s my round up for the first eleven days of Tribute Month sewing. I have to say that even just compiling this round up I found a couple of new people to follow on Instagram and lot of inspiration to spur my own sewing.
Well done to everyone, and I can’t wait to see the rest of Tribute Month sewing!
